Do you know that ICQ (version 2000b) lets you send and receive SMS messages without requiring you to "toggle" alphabets on your cell phone? Here are three of the many reasons you should try using the service:

1. You have just lost your phone, but you would like to send a Valentine’s message to your guy- or gal-friend.
2. You suspect that the phone company is charging you for BOTH sent and received messages. If you use ICQ's SMS service, there is no way that the phone company can charge you for sending SMSes via ICQ. But take note that received messages are possibly charged as part of your deal with your phone company. (For instance, in Singapore, depending on the service provider, the message received will count as part of the 200 to 400 free-message quota of the recipient).
3. ICQ is ubiquitous.

Here’s how to go about doing it:
 

1. Look for the telephone icon near the bottom right-hand corner of the ICQ box.
2. Click on “SMS Message” in the pop-up menu.
3. Type in the cell-phone number of your friend. If you have specified the country in one of the fields, there is no need to indicate the dialing prefix.
4. Write your Valentine's message. Your ICQ number and nickname will be highlighted automatically in the message box, though you can choose to delete them.
5. Another way to send an SMS message: go to your friend's name in the namelist, and click "SMS message" in the resulting pop-up menu.
